Unspoilt nature
Our unspoilt natural surroundings invite you to be a marvelling spectator in the midst of many unique natural phenomena.
Whether it is the accretion and erosion processes along the coast (unique in all of Europe), the large resting flocks of birds in autumn and spring, when a large part of the Northern European crane population is in our region, or whether it is all the small things that happen by the roadside waiting to be discovered.
Thousands of cranes resting here in autumn on the way to Scandinavia from the warm South draw many bird watchers. If you want you can be in the midst of it all.
Apart from the national park, which is the biggest in the new federal states with 805 square kilometres, the Fischland-Darss-Zingst region has many natural preserves and wildlife sanctuaries.
The high protective status of the region emphasizes the uniqueness of the landscape and is, at the same time, an appeal to all of us to treat it responsibly.
