Manor houses

Manor houses, stately homes, strongholds and castles

Go on a journey into the past of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania. In many villages, towns and cities there are still manor houses and stately homes of the gentility, some of them downright venerable, but also large castles, like the best-known ones in Schwerin, Güstrow or Schlemmin.

Their state of repair varies considerably. While some castles and manor houses were lovingly restored and are popular as hotels, senior citizens' residences, places of cultural interest or homes, a large number still continues to decay.
The search continues for ideas, concepts and investors to preserve these witnesses of history.

Ilka Zander and Jörg Matuschat have put together an impressive overview of approx. 2000 of these historical buildings on the web pages www.gutshaeuser.de.Weblink to "Jagdschloß Gelbensande" (between Rostock and Ribnitz-Damgarten): www.jagdschloss-gelbensande.de
